My “why” in teaching art is to offer art making opportunities to areas and communities that don’t have easy access to art education. I feel privileged to be living my “why” as I partner with several non profits based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district. The Tenderloin is one of the city’s most diverse and community driven neighborhoods in the city. It is also one of the most struggling and underrepresented areas in the city. Over the last 5 years I’ve worked with non-profits like GLIDE, The Healing WELL, The Chinatown Community Development Center, and VA-58, offering art-making opportunities to adults who may otherwise not have the means to tap into their creative spirit.
